Since 1996, the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) has been at the forefront of grassroots activation and lobbying efforts to protect the rights and values of Christians in Australia. With a focus on critical issues such as religious freedom, life and family, the ACL works to promote a Christian perspective on social and political issues. With over 250,000 Australians, the ACL mobilises Christians across the country to act on behalf of their faith, making a significant impact on the political landscape in Australia.
The Role
ACL is seeking to appoint a State Director for WA. With a conviction for protecting Christian rights, family values, and the sanctity of life, the State Director will lead ACL’s lobbying for WA. Working closely with churches, volunteers, and Local Campaign Organisers, the State Director will be the ACL spokesperson and representative at political meetings and negotiations, various media and speaking engagements, and at churches and supporter groups across WA.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the Australian political process and a passion to educate and equip Christians on how to make their voices heard, especially around election times.
Along with forming political strategies to advance the cause of the Church on cultural engagement and providing a platform for those harmed through unjust laws to influence change, the WA State Director will be responsible for:
Establishing and maintaining key political relationships for political advocacy, and to inform campaign design, strategy, and tactics.
Maintain ACL stakeholder engagement in WA through strengthening existing relationships and developing new relationships.
Achieve strategic, targeted grassroots volunteer growth in the State through training suitable volunteers and appointing an active local coordinator in every federal electorate in the State.
Maintain ACL’s Christian ethos and moto of “truth made public” in all aspects of political operations with compassion, conviction, and courage.
Key Skills
Providing leadership, Recruiting, leading and empowering individuals and teams, making decisions, directing people, representation of ACL to key stakeholders.
Building relationships with churches and parachurch ministries, faith aligned not-for-profits, members of parliament, volunteers and donors.
Evaluating problems, Examining information, interpreting data, documenting facts.
Communicating information, Public speaking, articulating information, convincing people, challenging ideas.
Selection Criteria
Evidence of exemplary faith and Christian character;
Active member of your Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox Church;
Demonstrated capacity to perform the responsibilities and deliver on the key accountabilities;
Commitment to ACL’s vision;
Very strong interpersonal skills;
Ability to use and engage with technology;
Good public speaking and writing skills;
Proven leadership ability with high emotional intelligence;
Very good at organising complex projects;
Strategic thinker.
